Local unemployed should have a quota of local building jobs – Maloney

Published On: February 5, 2014Views: 10

With the recent good news that a proposed €44m extension to the Square Shopping Centre and an investment of €50m for the Urgent Care Unit for Tallaght Hospital,  local Labour Deputy, Eamonn Maloney has called for a quota of jobs for local people in both construction projects.

“These two projects involve public money, and will be a financial boost to the economy in South Dublin and are very welcome.

“Given the high level of unemployment within the construction sector, our Government should continue to give priority to tackling this issue.

“All contracts whether they be public or private, should include a clause with a 10% quota for the locally unemployed especially if we are to tackle the high level of youth unemployment.”
