The Home & Community Section of Limerick City and County Council has confirmed that extensive refurbishment works to 189 Limerick City properties affected by floodwaters on February 1st are nearing completion.

The Home & Community Section of Limerick City and County Council has confirmed that extensive refurbishment works to 189 Limerick City properties affected by floodwaters on February 1st are nearing completion.

The privately owned and Local Authority owned houses in Kings Island, St. Mary’s Park and Corbally have been cleaned and sanitised and are currently being mechanically dried out by the Council employees. The Council says that the majority of residents affected by the flooding have now moved back into their homes.

Gerry Naughton, Senior Engineer, Home & Community commented: “Since February 1st last the local authority, in conjunction with other public service organisations, has been liaising with residents and business owners affected by the unprecedented flooding in the City. The Council would like to acknowledge the assistance of the local community in Corbally, St Mary’s Park and King’s Island over the past fortnight in ensuring that the affected properties are cleaned and made fit for habitation as quickly as possible.”

Meanwhile, the Council says that 200 Local Authority owned houses in Limerick City and 100 houses in the County suffered infrastructural damage during Wednesday’s severe weather.

Emergency repair works by Local Authority employees are ongoing and will continue throughout the weekend and into next week.
